Interesting Facts About Our Committee Members
The EB Johnson scholarship committee is a diverse group from varied walks of life. The members are all graduates of Elkin High School with a primary goal of helping deserving graduates reach their greatest potential.
Cynthia Scott
Board Member
After a distinguished 43-year career with Duke Energy, Cynthia retired in October 2022. Since retiring, she has embraced her love for travel, visiting London multiple times to explore the places where her mother once lived and worked while in England and France. She also enjoys cruising and has embarked on several voyages, with more planned for the near future.
In addition to traveling, Cynthia is an active member of her church, where she participates in Sunday school, sings in the choir, church secretary and serves on the usher board. She also cherishes time with her grandchildren, volunteers and maintains an active lifestyle at a local hospital’s fitness center.

I’m Elkin High graduate class of 1977. Retired Business Development and Sales specialist. A lifelong family friend. I am extremely passionate about the Elizabeth Johnson Foundation and proudly services as board member.
Anderson Martin
Board Member
Andy is a board member proudly serving the Elizabeth Johnson Foundation, and is an Elkin High School Alumni. He studied under the leadership of Elizabeth Johnson.
He currently resides in Bedford, NH where he works as an author and property manager in Puerto Rico and London, England.
His greatest achievements are his works with various charitable organizations and his devotion to inclusion and raising awareness for marginalized communities.
West Caudle
Board Member
West Caudle graduated from Elkin High School and Arizona State University. He resides in North Carolina and enjoys a career in Parking Technology and working in a family-owned small business. He also has a diverse professional background with experience in public education, campaign management, and criminal justice.
Outside of the professional setting, West enjoys running a community relief and disaster response non-profit, Better Angels Foundation, coaching youth athletics, and community organizing focused on equal access and justice initiatives. He is an ordained minister and is a member of the North Carolina NAACP and the North Carolina Association of Educators.
Fleurette Gregory
Board Member
Fleurette “Flo” Gregory-Phillips is a 1991 graduate of Elkin High School. After graduation she attended North Carolina A&T State University for three years, she was member of The Blue and Gold Marching Machines (trumpet player). “Flo” decided to take a break from pursuing her degree and went into the work force. In 1998, “Flo” joined the Winston-Salem Police Department where she has served as a police officer for the last 27 years.
“Flo” obtained her Bachelor’s Degree from The University of North Carolina in Greensboro in 2019 (Humanities with a concentration in Religion, Philosophy and Ethics). ” Flo” was also one of Mrs. Elizabeth B. Baker Johnson prize student’s. “Flo” enjoys spending time with her daughter Asia Phillips and mother Paulette Gregory. She enjoys singing, is a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, NC, The Winston-Salem Sportsmen Cluband also a HIP HOP CYCLE instructor for The YMCA of Northwest North Carolina, just to name a few of her hobbies and favorite past time.
“Flo” is a proud board member of The Elizabeth B.Barker Johnson Scholarship Committee. ” Flo” will be pursuing her Masters Degree in the Fall of 2025 at UNCG.
